Colour in Quarantine

I would like to thank my co-curator, Kyle Zurevinski for helping me realize this online exhibition. Secondly, I would like to thank all of the artists who submitted work to be considered. Unfortunately, we could not include everyone but we truly appreciate the serious consideration that each artist gave to the content of this show. Congratulations to those whose work is part of this exhibition.

Kyle and I received submissions online, and in keeping with this method of communication, we juried them online via FaceTime meetings and through an exchange of emails. Each selected artist has one image with a full description posted to the 330g website along with their website and Instagram information. If you are interested in finding out more about the work, we hope that you will email the artist directly and engage in a conversation. After all, this show is about connection.

The idea for Colour in Quarantine was conceived as a way to discover whether a cataclysmic event like the COVID-19 pandemic generating fear, unrest, enforced change and adaptation would reshape meaning for artists. The submitted works include full colour and black and white works. In some cases, specific meaning can be found in the title.

Colour in Quarantine includes artists from Canada and abroad, with the selected works displaying their expression in painting, photography, fashion design, drawing, and collage. We hope that the artists in this exhibition will feel connected to each other and in turn to the viewing public.

COVID-19 has generated emotional as well as financial hardships for artists. We encourage those of you who visit the 330g online exhibition to please consider supporting these artists. Sales of work pay the studio bills. With galleries operating at such a low ebb until restrictions can be fully lifted, artists are struggling to make ends meet. If this work interests or resonates with you, please consider purchasing it by contacting the artists directly to find out how to go about doing this. 330g is a totally independent, non-commercial project space. All sales proceeds go directly to the artists. Also please consider forwarding this information to your networks so that as many people as possible see this work. Pay it forward so that there is a wide range of exposure.

Many thanks to all of the artists who submitted work to Colour in Quarantine. Hang in there and happy trails in the studio!

This project has been in the works since the start of quarantine, and we have now decided to go live with this exhibition at this current date. Out of respect for the Black Lives Matter movement and the many social justice protests occurring worldwide, the initial project launch date was paused to give space to those who needed it.
