Reset Reset is an exhibition of ten emerging and established painters from four Western provinces. It is an invitation to explore what is happening in artist studios in Saskatoon and across the West. It celebrates the diversity within the medium and demonstrates the vitality in looking, thinking and feeling through paint. This exhibition celebrates the importance of painting today and why it continues to flourish despite harsh times. The ten Reset painters include: Brody Burns (Sask), Robert Christie (Sask), Tod Emel (BC), Colleen Heslin (BC), Wanda Koop (Man), Stephanie Krawchuk (Sask), Laura Payne (Sask), Ben Reeves (BC), Jesse Stilwell (AB) and Dave Stonhouse (Sask). Established artists such as Wanda Koop—internationally renowned and one of Canada’s most accomplished painters—are presented here with young artists who are beginning professional careers. The exhibition highlights the connection between generations and genres in a salon-style installation that encourages conversation and debate between works. From prize-winning, innovative textile-based work (Heslin) to dreamlike landscapes at twilight (Reeves), from striking optical patterning (Payne, Emel and Stilwell) to 3-dimensional abstractions that redefine space (Christie and Stonhouse), Reset assures us that painting remains a potent force on the cultural scene.
